Greek anti-fascist resistance leader Nikos Beloyannis is sentenced to death in a military trial launched by the US-backed Nationalist government. Among the three military commanders issuing the decision was Georgios Papadopoulos, future leader of the 1967 US-backed military coup against Greece's democracy and subsequent US-backed military dictatorship lasting from 1967 to 1974.
