On April 17, 2013 Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced that the United States would
send 200 Army soldiers to Jordan to assist local authorities and to prepare for a number of
alternative scenarios that might unfold as a result of the deteriorating situation in Syria. In
January of 2020, it was reported that 2,795 U.S. Troops were based in Jordan to assist in counter
IS campaigns
